Short answer
To convert PDF to EPUB, choose your PDF, optionally set a title and author, and download the .epub. The PDF's text is extracted and packaged as a standard EPUB 3 that reflows to any e-reader screen and font size. It runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. The PDF needs selectable text; scans have none and would need OCR first.

Where the EPUB opens, and what converts
| Device / feature | Works? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Kobo, Nook, PocketBook | Yes | EPUB is their native format — copy the file across |
| Apple Books (iOS/macOS) | Yes | Opens directly |
| Google Play Books | Yes | Upload to your library |
| Amazon Kindle | Via Send to Kindle | Amazon converts the EPUB on their side |
| Calibre | Yes | Opens and re-converts freely |
| Text-based PDFs | Converts | Any PDF whose text you can select in a viewer |
| Scanned PDFs | Does not convert | A scan is an image with no text layer — needs OCR first |
| Reflowable text | Yes | The point of EPUB: it rewraps to screen and font size |
| Embedded images | Not included | Text-first converter |
| Multi-column layouts | Flattened | Columns become a single reading order |
If you can select the text in your PDF viewer, this will convert it. If selecting gives you nothing, the PDF is a scan and needs OCR before any converter can help.
Frequently asked questions
Why convert a PDF to EPUB?+
A PDF has fixed pages, so on a phone or e-reader you end up pinching and scrolling sideways. EPUB reflows: the text rewraps to the screen and font size you choose. Converting is what makes a PDF comfortable to read on a Kobo, Nook, tablet, or phone.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?+
No. A scanned PDF is a picture of a page with no text layer, so there is nothing to extract and you would get an empty book. That needs OCR, which this tool does not do. It works on PDFs with real, selectable text — if you can select the text in your PDF viewer, it will convert.
Are images, columns, and layout preserved?+
No — the output is a clean, reflowable text book. Embedded images are not carried over, and multi-column or heavily designed layouts are flattened into a single reading order. That is the trade-off that makes the text reflow properly on a small screen.
Are my files uploaded?+
No. The PDF's text is extracted and the EPUB is assembled entirely in your browser, so the document never leaves your device. It works offline once the page has loaded.
Will the EPUB work on a Kindle?+
Modern Kindles accept EPUB through Send to Kindle, which converts it on Amazon's side. The file produced here is a standard EPUB 3, so it also opens in Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo, Calibre, and most e-reader apps.
Is it free?+
Yes — no signup, no watermark, no file-size limit beyond your device's memory. It's ad-supported and runs entirely in your browser.
