Flooring Calculator is a free tool that estimates how many boxes of flooring or tile a room needs — and what it costs — with the right waste factor for your layout. No sign-up; the math runs in your browser.

How it works

• Area = length × width (or enter it directly).
• Waste factor by pattern: straight/grid 10%, diagonal 15%, herringbone/chevron 20%.
• Buy area = area × (1 + waste); boxes = ceil(buy area ÷ sq ft per box).
• Cost = floor area × a per-square-foot installed range for the flooring type.

Pattern-aware waste is the key difference from generic calculators — a herringbone lay really does waste twice what a straight lay does.

These are planning estimates. Real waste depends on room shape, plank size, doorways, and installer skill. Check the box coverage printed on your product, buy from one dye lot, and keep a spare box for repairs.
